In my journey of leadership and human development, I have observed a dangerous imbalance that quietly destroys destinies and limits impact:
Many people are highly competent but bankrupt in character,
while others are rich in character but poor in competence.
Both are incomplete. Both are limited. And both will struggle to command lasting relevance.
This is not the standard for SLIH Ambassadors.
THE TRAGEDY OF COMPETENCE WITHOUT CHARACTER
Competence can open doors—but character determines how long you stay in the room.
A person may be:
- Brilliant in execution
- Excellent in delivery
- Gifted in skill
Yet:
- Unreliable
- Dishonest
- Proud
- Undisciplined
Such a person may rise quickly, but they will fall even faster.
Skill can attract opportunities, but character sustains them.
THE LIMITATION OF CHARACTER WITHOUT COMPETENCE
On the other hand, there are people:
- Humble
- Loyal
- Faithful
- Well-meaning
But they lack:
- Skill
- Capacity
- Excellence
These people are loved—but not sought after.
Good intentions do not replace productivity.
Dr Smart once said:
“You can be sincere but sincerely wrong”
A good heart does not solve real-world problems.
The world does not reward intentions—it rewards value.
THE KINGDOM STANDARD: A FUSION OF BOTH
True dominion begins when character and competence converge.
This is the pattern we see in Daniel:
“An excellent spirit was in him…” — Daniel 6:3
Daniel was not only spiritually sound—he was administratively exceptional.
He combined:
- Integrity with intelligence
- Faithfulness with excellence
- Character with competence
And as a result:
- He became indispensable in a foreign system
- And was extremely relevant within four governments — Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius, and Cyrus
WHY THIS MATTERS TO SLIH MEMBERS
At Smart Leaders Impact Hub, our vision is not just to raise successful people—but to raise men and women of dominion.
And dominion is not achieved by gifting alone.
It is achieved by balanced development.
You must become:
- Competent enough to deliver value
- Trustworthy enough to be entrusted with responsibility
Because in life:
- Your competence will make you visible
- Your character will make you dependable
And when both are in place, something powerful happens:
Your service becomes irresistible.
THE DEMAND EQUATION OF LIFE
People are not in demand because they are nice.
People are not in demand because they are gifted.
People are in demand because they are:
- Useful (Competence)
- Reliable (Character)
When you solve problems effectively and can be trusted consistently,
you become a scarce asset in any system.
MY PERSONAL CHARGE
Refuse to be:
- A skilled liability
- Or a harmless irrelevance
Make a decision today:
- Build your skills daily
- Strengthen your character intentionally
Pursue excellence in your craft, and integrity in your conduct.
AS I CONCLUDE
Competence will take you to the top,
but only character will keep you there.
When both are combined, your life becomes a force that systems cannot ignore.
Thank God It’s Friday!
Happy Workers’ Day!
REMEMBER
Your work is not just a duty—it is a platform for dominion.
Commit today to becoming both valuable and dependable,
because the future belongs to those who can be trusted with results.
TRUE VALUE:
Is the demand for what you do, and the difficulty in replacing you.
Also, ensure you are present at this Sunday’s Global Connect.
It has been intentionally designed to build a culture of excellence in the workplace, thereby increasing your earning power and overall value.
Don’t just work—grow, improve, and position yourself for greater impact.
I love you all.
